The slate constellation maps are a homage to the work of T.J Hull the original compiler of the star charts which have been sampled in the earlier works belonging to this series.

These maps were original published in 1890 in the Orient Line edited and compiled by W.J Loftie. It is a guide for travellers taking the aforementioned route east, a book that would have once been the equivalent of a Victorian backpackers Lonely Planet.

Such beautiful imagery is often tucked away in public archives not seen and largely forgotten about. This piece seeks to re-contextualise the original work as a piece of fine art, venerating it in stone and architectural gilding.
